Nonviolent communication has its roots in Carl Rogers' time, as recognized cooperative practice with a clear connection to Thomas Gordon (Family Conference), mediation and solving conflicts through support of impartial mediator.

Nonviolent communication is a specific way of dealing with people, in which we try to simplify and facilitate communication flow which is necessary in communication, exchange of information and peaceful solution of conflicts.

The focus is on needs and feelings (that is common to all people) as well as on the use of speech which stimulates good intentions.

The use of speech which leads to rejection and unacceptability is avoided. Nonviolent communication is not rheoretical strategy nor manipulative instrument in gaining goals. Nonviolent communication reflects attitude of high respect, attention, appreciation and self-respect. Founder of nonviolent communication is Dr. Marshall Rosenberg. Dr. Rosenberg has been developing this process for about 35 years and it is still being improved. Rosenberg is the founder of Center for nonviolent communication (www.cnvc.org) and he and his co-workers offer nonviolent communication in more than 30 countries around the world. At the moment there are around 130 certificate trainers.
